Guardian Leader

I like this statement from today's Guardian Leader:

"What is it about leadership contests? The deforming problem in British politics today is that there isn't one. The deforming problem in American politics is that there is nothing else."

Torsten,

I enjoyed the article, and I totally agree with the premise. This whole mess of election 2008 is ridiculous and overblown. It was sad to me that Democratic candidate Tom Vilsak had to pull out because of funding. That is the problem with politics in this country. Whether it is Democrats or Republicans, those with the most money win - not those with the biggest or best ideas.

Now, other states (Florida, Illinois, California & New Jersey)are moving their primaries to February so as to be more relevant along with Iowa and New Hampshire. At this rate, the candidate will be chosen in one month, if not before.

I fondly remember the days when nobody knew for sure who the nominee was going to be until the end of the respective conventions. Now they (conventions) are just expensive "we-are-not-worthy" love-ins.
